Everything you need to know to help you pick the perfect outfit for your photo session.
One of the most common questions I get after a booked photo session is, "Do you have any suggestions for our outfit?"
Choosing the correct outfits for a photo session is one of your most essential decisions. Your outfit can make or break the overall look and feel of your photos, so it's essential to choose something that reflects your personal style and complements the location and theme of your shoot. In this outfit guide, I'll provide some recommendations and tips to help you make the best choice for your photo session.
For a start, think about the location and weather conditions we might encounter. It's always hot in Florida; wearing something comfortable is best. We all know South Florida weather is also unpredictable, rain or shine. However, if the weather is bad, we can plan and shoot around it. If we shoot on a sandy beach, I recommend being barefoot. Not only it looks natural, but walking/running on the beach barefoot has great health benefits. There's nothing more relaxing than strolling near the water and listening to the sound of the ocean.
You want to feel comfortable. If your dress is too tight and you won’t feel your best, it will show in your expression. Suppose your shoes are killing you; the same thing. Bring an addition pair of shoes. Also, make sure your clothes aren’t too baggy or loose. You want to look polished.
For colors, I recommend neutrals, pastels, and earthy colors. You're not limited to cream and light colors. For instance, go for a soft or dark forest green if you want to wear green. Or if you want to wear yellow, choose a mustard yellow. Avoid wearing vivid colors.
You should only wear complementary colors with each other, not outfits that are identical. Complementary suggests a variety of colors, textures, accessories, patterns, and tones that work well together while maintaining their individuality.
Avoid logos, prints, and bold designs. The more subtle and tiny, the better! I usually try to avoid combining too many patterns because it makes the photographs look cluttered and distracting. Patterns will draw attention away from your face. Flannels and flowery patterns are OK, but only in moderation.
Whether you’re dating, engaged, or married… think of complementary like sand to the ocean. Decide whether you’d like cool tones across blues, greys, and black or warm tones like tans, beiges, and browns. I love suggesting styles for my couples. I'm here to help.
If you booked a family photo session, it’s still think about complementary colors. You don’t have to match entirely. Stay in the color pallet.
Headshots and branding mean you are the face of your brand. These photos will tell the world who you are and what you have to offer. Suppose you're a real estate agent; dress professionally. If you're a fitness coach, wear active gear.
Choosing the perfect outfit for your photo session can significantly impact the overall look and feel of your photos. By considering the location, theme, and coordination with your surroundings, you can select an outfit that truly reflects your style and enhances the visual aesthetic of your photos. Remember to dress comfortably and embrace layers and textures to add depth and personality to your ensemble. With these outfit recommendations in mind, you'll be well-prepared for your upcoming photo session and capture the perfect shot.
